PRAGUE CASTLE TOUR
This 4 hrs walking tour through the Prague Castle will show you a monumental complex of residential and office buildings representing all architectural styles and periods. Originally it used to be the residence of princes and kings of Bohemia, since 1918 it is the seat of the president.
Prague Castle rests gloriously upon a high hill of Prague, visible from anywhere in the city, continuously the seat of government for 11 centuries. Palaces and monasteries, high walls and beautiful gardens surround St. Vitus Cathedral where St. Wenceslas, the patron saint, is burried.Charles IV and Rudolf II are among the Holy Roman Emperors who lived and made history here. We will visit the Old Royal Palace with its gothic Vladislav Hall, the largest profane hall of the medieval Prague, today the scene of presidential elections and representative events. The walk continues to the St. George's Basilica, the oldest preserved church building of the Prague Castle. Don't miss seeing the Golden Lane, a row of tiny houses built into the arches of the castle for Rudolph II´s 24 castle guards. It is named for the goldsmiths who lived here and worked in the 17th century on experiments that convinced Emperor Rudolph II that they could change lead into gold. Franz Kafka wrote in No. 22 and the Nobel Prize winning poet Jaroslav Seifert also lived here. The house´ windows open to the upper branches of tall trees that grow from the stag moat below.
Our tour ends at the hotel. Transfer from/to hotel included.
